What it is.
Tribulus is a low, sprawling plant with tiny yellow flowers. It covers dry sandy ground all over the country.
Its fruit breaks into hard pieces with spikes sharp enough to puncture a bicycle tyre. Hence the Bulgarian folk name, "grandma's teeth": the pieces really do look like teeth.
The Latin name comes from the "tribulus", an ancient weapon: iron spikes scattered on the ground that always land with one spike up.
